(2014-09-24) Al Ezz Dekheila Steel: losses due to gas supply halt nearing LE 100 m
Sources inside Al Ezz Dekheila Steel (IRAX) said that the rebar inventory reached 130,000 tons for the first times in years, AlMasry AlYoum reported. Daily production was limited to 3,000 tons at the time that 3 plants fully stopped and only the drag plant is working, according to the sources. Hesham Galal, one of the firm's leaders, said that the product selling crisis in addition to the losses due to gas shortage since 15 June is threating the firm's financial position; pointing out that loss reached LE 100 million. Galal added that importing of rolling steel from China led to halting its production in Al Ezz Dekheila because the Chinese is sold cheaper by LE 300. He revealed that large amount of steel is being imported from Turkey to take advantage of the Al Ezz Dekheila problem and that the traders formed a sort of a assembly to import large amount of steel. Galal said that the government should take the necessary measures to stop the damage to the company, 45% of the firm is state-owned, and to stop the damage to the Egyptian industry.
